Running Retrospectives is NOT an art, but a craftsmanship. Effective facilitation of meetings and retrospectives is possible for everybody. I want to give you 7 secrets here:
- Believe that the people in your team did the best they could during the Sprint.
- First collect facts. There are several ways available to do this, but please, first collect facts.
- Do not discuss. Use facilitation techniques to collect facts instead of talking, talking, talking.
- Create a good atmosphere first. Make everyone realize your success.
- Acknowledge it!
- Start a brainstorming session to find things (process, behavior, …) to improve in the future.
- Focus on the future! Separate issues the team has to improve from issues the ScrumMaster shall improve.
